Providing modern dentistry in rural Kenya and Tanzania with a mobile clinic is challenging, frustrating, exciting and rewarding. Dr. Raymond Damazo and his wife, Gail, have devoted a large part of their lives traveling and working in Africa. The love affair of an American dentist with Africa has taken them on two round trips by Land Rover from Nairobi, Kenya to South Africa, a total of 36,880 kilometers. Their experiences range from clinics under an Acacia tree on the banks of Lake Victoria to working in small medical clinics at remote lodges. The combination of the unique customs of the Maasai, charging elephants, close calls with spitting cobras and root canal therapy by flashlight will give a glimpse of the hazards and adventures of a safari dentist.
